ZIFA board to meet over Malawi debacle
Wednesday 11 October 2006
THE Warriors fell 1-0 to Malawi in a crucial African Nations Cup tie

HARARE - The Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) board will meet at the end of this month to review last weekend performance by the national soccer team against Malawi in which the Warriors lost 1-0.

Zimbabwe were left with a mammoth task to qualify for the 2008 African Cup of Nations finals after the loss in Blantyre on Saturday.

Head coach, Charles Mhlauri is expected to present a comprehensive report on the match.

Mhlauri is expected to touch on preparations before the match and also analyse what could have caused the Warriors’ downfall.

Zifa officials confirmed that the meeting would be held at the end of the month.

“The meeting was supposed to be held today (yesterday) but the board has decided to meet at the end of the month. The Warriors’ performance against Malawi will be high on the agenda.

“It looks like there will be no changes to the technical team but there will be fireworks because Mhlauri is expected to attack the Zifa board for the poor preparations while the board will be busy defending themselves.

“Mhlauri will most certainly demand to play high profile friendly matches after he observed that there was lack of co-ordination in the team because they had not been playing together for some time.

“All in all, it will be a meeting to discuss the future of the national team,” said a Zifa official.

Zimbabwe is in Group 13 with Malawi and Morocco and only the group winner will qualify for the finals.

After the loss against Malawi, Zimbabwe will now need to win against Morocco at home early next year and hope for a positive result when they travel to Morocco for the reverse fixture. - ZimOnline
